About the event

Food Policy Innovation Platform

Welcome to the Food Policy Innovation Platform (FPIP), a platform for interrogating critical issues underlying the food security policy in Nigeria. The platform provides a space for actors and stakeholders to make their intellectual contributions to the growth and dynamics of policymaking and implementation process, by participating in the dialogue on salient issues affecting the food security of the nation. The platform was created by Farm and Infrastructure Foundation (FIF) – an organisation for promoting policy best practices in agriculture and rural development.

Two types of issues are featured for the dialogue on this site. The first type is debatable issues which pitch participants on either side of an intellectual divide, as posed in a question form on a topic by topic basis. The second type is discussion issues and comments on current topics to be floated from time to time as they emanate from current project activities of FIF.

Visitors to this site are invited to participate as debaters or discussants in any perspectives they dare to hold – professional, vocational, cultural, ideological or religious perspectives etc. The goal is to harness the views of different stakeholders in the policy process governing food security of the nation, and collate such views for onward delivery to relevant policy authorities, in order to shape or reshape their thoughts and mindset on a sustained basis.

How the platform works

  • The platform is specifically grouped into three areas to be visited by different participants, as follows:
  • The Faculty: This is the area for the professionals or policy experts to freely make their contributions to policy making and policy implementation affecting the lives of the people.
  • The Gallery: This area is for other interested parties to freely make their contributions to policy making and policy implementation affecting their business and other activities in the society or economy.
  • The Secretariat: This involves the role of FIF in moderating the debates and discussions, as well as in publishing the output for public consumption on a periodic basis in full acknowledgement of inputs from the varied participants. In this regard, the discussion and debatable issues are posted periodically on this cite by FIF as the Secretariat, including a background statement and guidance notes on each topic.
