What We Do

We work as gatekeepers for the food-poor,to collaborate with public policy authorities and rural communities, and to continually shape and reshape the food policy landscape for the benefit of the food-poor.

Policy Influencing

We engage with policy decision-makers in agriculture and rural development to drive meaningful change. By uniting supporters and communities, we encourage the implementation of effective policies that benefit farmers and rural residents. Our collective voice strengthens our efforts to address the hunger crisis in Nigeria, while we gather research and present evidence to ensure our concerns are heard globally.

Policy Best Practices

The theoretical context of a policy failure  in the agri-food system has its foundation in the prevailing notion about food held by the people, i.e. whether it is human need based or human right based. Generally on the one hand, the notion of food as a human need presupposes that any failure of public or private policy or programmes is practically inconsequential upon the policy authorities or their agents involved in the implementation process. On the other hand, the notion of food as a human right presupposes that any failure of public or private policy or programmes is practically consequential upon the policy authorities or their agents involved in the implementation process. This context provides the basis for proper understanding of the critical issues in food governance and how to address them effectively; namely: i) inadequate voice and accountability, ii) political instability and occurrence of violence, iii) government ineffectiveness, iv) poor regulatory quality, v) rule of law, and vi) uncontrolled corruption. Moreover, the foregoing narrative informed the programming of FIF activities, particularly formulation and implementation of FIF’s flagship project – National Campaign on Right to Food in Nigeria.

Advancing public knowledge about Right to Food

We engage in various speaking events to inform the public about the agricultural policy developments, particularly the need for a mind, policy and practice change in the notion of food, from the notion of food as a mere human need to the contemporary notion of food as a fundamental human right.
